To start day 4 of our youth exchange “Be Happy, Be a Polyglot”, we have done all the playful punishments accumulated from yesterdays such as giving hugs, singing or doing push-ups and squats. In addition, we have reflected together on the importance of learning and knowing language and the difference between dialects that exist in the same country.
In the main activity of today’s morning session, we have discussed the important points that a foreign person should know when traveling to another country such as: asking for directions to get to a place, ordering food in a restaurant, shopping in a supermarket, asking for help, looking for accommodation or asking for a taxi.
After choosing the most important points, we made six mixed groups that had to work together to create a situation of being in a foreign country and then dramatize it. After working in a group for 1 hour and watching the performances we had to vote through an app for the best one. The winner was the group called Tinky Winky.
To end the session, we again reflected on the importance of knowing other languages as well as discussed our own experiences with learning a new language.
The final activity we did was a kind of energizer in which we had to get in a circle and pass a ball while a song was playing in the background and when it stopped the person who was with the ball in his hands had to go to the center and sing a song acapella.
